November 2020 - Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius
Now Appearing in the Signs of Sagittarius & Gemini
We are entering the fall eclipse season with a Lunar Eclipse on November 30, 2020 followed by a Solar Eclipse on December 14, 2020.
Since a Solar Eclipse occurs near the North and South Nodes and the Nodes of the Moon change signs about every 18 months or so, Solar Eclipses occur in the same sets of signs as the Nodes of the Moon (mostly).
The Nodes of the Moon recently moved into the signs of Sagittarius and Gemini and so the Solar Eclipses follow and shift to those signs as well.
This means that we bring to a close, for the time being, the recent Solar Eclipse chapter involving the signs of Cancer and Capricorn and open a cycle of Sagittarius and Gemini allowing us to explore these new themes for a period of time.
Understanding that Solar Eclipses flow through the zodiac with the North and South Nodes of the Moon helps us to resonate with the understanding of how our personal astrology relates to the unfolding universe as the Solar Eclipses progress through the zodiac passing through all opposing sign pairs over an 18 ½ year period along with the Nodes of the Moon.
This understanding reinforces an important principle of astrology:
When we move in harmony with our transits,
we personally move in harmony with
the energy of the universe as it unfolds.
From the perspective of our personal horoscope, that is a precious gift to connect with!
Cancer & Capricorn:
The Theme of Identity
During the previous eclipse cycle from July 2018 to June 2020, we experienced five Solar Eclipses in the signs of Cancer and Capricorn: three Solar Eclipses in Cancer and two in Capricorn.
The core theme of an eclipse in Cancer and Capricorn
is clarifying your identity
The theme of identity is related to the signs of Cancer and Capricorn belonging to the axis of Cardinal Signs that are known as the axis of identify with the rulership of the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses of the natural zodiac wheel and the signs of Aries and Libra with Cancer and Capricorn.
If you have used a portion of this time on your journey to become more aware of your feelings and needs and have explored a deeper wisdom that balances your personal identity with your family (Cancer) against your place in the external world and society (Capricorn), then you have moved in harmony with the gift contained in the Solar Eclipse transits during this time.
As our attention now shifts to Sagittarius and Gemini, the signs of Cancer and Capricorn are whispering words of farewell for us to remember:
“Be patient, trust your feelings and embrace your wisdom”.
Sagittarius & Gemini – The Theme of Meaning
The November Lunar Eclipse and the December Solar Eclipse are the first of three sets of eclipses in the signs of Sagittarius and Gemini that continue in June 2021 and December 2021.
With the change of signs from Cancer and Capricorn to Gemini and Sagittarius, the themes that are being energized are changing from identity (home/family and career/society) to meaning (gather information and forming a personal vision).
The theme of meaning is related to the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius belonging to the axis of mutable signs that are known as the axis of meaning with the rulership of the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th houses of the natural zodiac wheel and the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius with Virgo and Pisces.
The core theme of an eclipse in Sagittarius and Gemini
is the search for meaning
In the process of exploring meaning, we often turn to asking inspired questions.
What does it mean to have a philosophy of life?
Do I have a philosophy of life and can I articulate to myself? To others?
Do I need to search for more information?
Do I have the information I need?
Am I addicted to searching for more and more information?
Am I afraid to settle into a guiding philosophy?
What is my vision for the future?
How do I put my vision into words?
What are the steps I need to take to bring my vision into reality?
How comfortable do I feel communicating my philosophy and vision to others?
As these eclipses energize the weeks and months ahead, take the time to explore your philosophy and vision for life and ponder questions about the meaning of life and watch for the moments of insights that arise.
In the process of asking questions and finding answers, you are honoring the intention of these eclipses one day at a time.
Exploring The Archetypes
From the perspective of the mythic journey of the soul, a Solar or Lunar Eclipse injects energy into your birth chart and seems to speed up the development of the circumstances in your life. The circumstances that arise can be either positive or negative, depending on what you need at this time.
The search for meaning implies that we have the playful curiosity to gather information and the insight to find meaning from the information.
The winged messenger God Mercury is the playful and curious ruler of Gemini. If you are bold and strap on his winged shoes, you too can fly into spaces and places and gather details or, shall we say, bits and pieces of sparkling jewels that catch our eye and inspire our minds.
The King of Gods is Jupiter and he is not about gathering bits and pieces of sparkling jewels, but rather forming those jewels into a visionary mandala that inspires and guides us to a life of meaning.
All archetypes contain an aspect
of light and shadow
We experience this as either a positive or negative expression of the archetype along a spectrum from positive to negative, which often varies by circumstance. Meaning, there are aspects of life that we are more mature in expressing and others where we are still practicing (maybe still falling down and skinning our knees).
At their best, Sagittarius and Gemini bring a combination of personal optimism combined with hospitality and inspiring conversation to relationships. It is often through relating that they recognize how well their words convey meaning based on the feedback they receive. Relationships provide the opportunity to share truth without attacking or demeaning others and the ability to share humor and have fun without picking on others. Sagittarius and Gemini are at their best when they know their truth and live in harmony with that truth in an honorable, inspiring and playful way. This positive expression embraces the expansive optimism of Sagittarius that soars like the Eagle with nobility and with Gemini who remains youthful and playful.
At their worst, Sagittarius and Gemini can inflate one’s sense of self-importance that can lead to exaggeration and potentially dishonesty. When this happens, humor finds laughter in picking on others and creating scapegoats with a stance that is inflexible as it is based in a perception that their truth is the only truth. Sagittarius and Gemini are at their worst when they believe that only they hold all the answers with zero tolerance for the opinions of others. This expression is akin to the small birds that nervously search continuously and never soar or when the Eagle forgets that he is noble and simply wants to look down on others.
May you be playful and have fun gathering up precious jewels of information, but then realize when it is time to find a quiet place to arrange those jewels into something significant that guides your journey forward.
